Protect Pedestrians, Bicyclists and More with Thermal Smart Sensors

FLIR Systems has developed a series of solutions that support safety on the road. Whether the goal is to relieve traffic congestion or to protect vulnerable road users (VRUs), such as cyclists and pedestrians, these technologies provide safer and more efficient roads while addressing the increasing problem of fatal traffic incidents.
Achieving VRU Security Goals Webinar
Managing how vehicles and VRUs share urban highways is becoming more difficult with increasing traffic congestion and population. Watch the recorded webinar below to learn how to dynamically and intelligently account for VRUs in signals and crosswalks with the help of FLIR intelligent transportation solutions. Our experts also discuss how to prepare for connected vehicle initiatives and how VRU solutions can play a role in planning your next transportation project.
Intelligent Traffic Solutions to Optimize Traffic Flow
As traffic congestion in urban centers continues to increase, it becomes increasingly important to design technology to help control movement for both vehicles and pedestrians. TrafiSense™ AI with thermal imaging and TrafiCam™ AI visible cameras, both with artificial intelligence (AI), are intelligent traffic system cameras designed to help safely optimize traffic flow on roads and intersections. The addition of artificial intelligence capability provides a fully integrated solution that allows traffic engineers and city planners to apply artificial intelligence-based learning to continuously make cities safer.
These AI-enabled cameras help control traffic through data capture and processing to provide real-time input to traffic signal controllers at intersections. The thermal sensor inside TrafiSense AI has the ability to make edge decisions based on the heat emitted by all objects to help decipher between different types of vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists. Combined with the low-light, high-definition visible sensor inside the TrafiCam AI, it provides continuous monitoring of the traffic signals of the cities in all weather conditions, no matter what time of day it is.
Another advantage of these FLIR traffic solutions is that the cameras are Wi-Fi enabled for travel time calculations and other origin-destination applications.
By combining TrafiSense AI and TrafiCam AI cameras with the FLIR Asicica™ cloud platform, cities can apply their AI-based learning to real-time data to make predictive traffic pattern changes and avoid congestion to create more efficient and safer cities 24 hours a day.
Cameras that can adapt to future infrastructure changes can be equipped with 5G cellular antennas to further increase road safety, integrating vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity, which will provide better communication between vehicles and their surroundings.

AI-enabled traffic sensors reliably detect and classify vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
